Komi coal industry prospects are associated with its further development and development of new deposits in Vorkuta geological and industrial region
On August 22, Head of the Republic of Komi Sergey Gaplikov took part in a working meeting of President of Russia Vladimir Putin with governors and heads of coal-mining regions of Russia. Current situation in coal industry and its development strategy were discussed.
The meeting was held on the eve of the Day of the Miner, which is celebrated in Russia on the last Sunday of August. Vladimir Putin congratulated the industry workers and veterans on the upcoming holiday.
Prospects of the Komi coal industry are connected with further opening and development of new deposits in Vorkuta geological and industrial region. It has the largest explored European coal reserves of 340 bln tons and an industrial potential of 7 bln tons.
Promising projects of PAO Severstal in Usinskoye-1 deposit (reserves of 126.3 mln tons and development period of 21 years) and PJSC NLMK in Usinskoye-3 deposit (reserves of 177.4 mln tons and development period of 42 years) are ready for implementation.
Pechora coal basin new deposits opening and development will contribute to the prospective development of the Vorkuta backbone Arctic Zone, Vorkutaugol systemic company, the economy of the Vorkuta City, and also enable the development of other promising deposits of gold, barite, quartz, chromite, and manganese.
