Forestry production dynamics is growing in Komi
This was stated by Sergey Gaplikov, Head of the Republic of Komi at the IV International Conference "Pulp and Paper Industry of Russia. New Realities, New Opportunities." The event took place in Vienna, Austria. Representatives of federal and regional authorities of the Russian Federation, business and scientific communities gathered to discuss intermediate results and prospects for the development of timber industry.
Speaking at the panel discussion, Sergey Gaplikov emphasized that the Republic of Komi was one of the major forest regions of European Russia.
87 per cent of the territory of Komi is covered by forests (36.3 mln hectares). The total wood stock is 2.8 bln m3, including over 80 per cent of such coniferous species as spruce and pine. Estimated annual cut is about 33 mln m3. The annual harvesting is 8.5 mln m3.
At the same time, up to 90 per cent of harvested wood is processed by republican companies.
According to ten months of 2018 statistics, over 900,000 m3 of sawn timber, over 650,000 tons of paper and almost 275,000 tons of cardboard were produced in the republic. The dynamics exceeds averagely by 5 per cent comparing to the same period of the last year.
The main industry investment development driver and one of the key state support mechanisms is the implementation of priority investment projects. In Komi 7 projects of about RUR 6 bln of total investment are being implemented. At the moment, the possibility of including other investment projects together with the Horizon project of Mondi SLPK is being considered.
*** The event was organized by the Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters of Russia, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. The Association of Paper Industry Specialists (APIS) is the Conference Operator.
