The Government of the Republic of Komi and OJSC Russian Railways signed a cooperation agreement for 2018-2022
Today, the document was signed in Sosnogorsk by Sergey Gaplikov, Head of the region and Valery Tanayev, Director of the Northern Railway, the OJSC Russian Railways affiliation.
"This is a strategic agreement. Among other issues, it is aimed to fulfil tasks of RF President Vladimir Putin outlined in his message to the Federal Assembly. The agreement reflects the most important issues for the region. Among them there is joint participation in the development and construction of the Northern Latitudinal Route, which will make the republic a transit zone. The government of the region will fulfill all its obligations and fully support the successful development of the Northern Railway," Sergey Gaplikov said.
"Signing this document, we are laying the foundation for balancing interests of the Republic of Komi and Russian Railways Company in production, financing, investment and other fields within a five-year perspective. Today, the railway has all the possibilities to ensure passenger and cargo turnover in full. Besides, there is the potential for increasing them," Valery Tanayev said.
Within the framework of the agreement, the parties came in terms with each other to cooperate in region's railway infrastructure development, including railway stations, station buildings, stops and attached territories. The document also reflects the issues of traffic safety, population medical services, social facilities maintenance, and non-industrial injuries prevention.
JSC RZhD plans to repair Syktyvkar railway station building and platform by the centenary of the Republic of Komi, as well as to build a new station building in Sosnogorsk. Within the next two years, the company intends to build 15 new modern passenger platforms at Okhotpost, Kalyakurya, Kozhim, Cherny, Nyur, Kochmes, Oshper, Bugry Polarnye, Usa, Amshor and others stations.
The construction of the Northern Latitudinal Railway and approaches to it is one of the projects planned in Komi. There are plans to build a railway line joining Sverdlovsk Railway and Northern Railway through Obskaya station.
*** Northern Railway is of key importance for the Republic of Komi. The extended length of the railway tracks is 2,300 km, more than half of which are being operated in the Far North and the Arctic. Over 8,000 railway employees work in the Republic of Komi. Annually over 600 consignors and 500 consignees use rail transport services.
