An agreement on cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Komi and the Government of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District – Yugra has been signed
The document was signed by Sergey Gaplikov, the Head of the Republic of Komi and Natalia Komarova, the Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District – Yugra. The signing ceremony was held within the framework of the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi.
"Our regions have well-developed long-standing close friendly relations. Our cooperation is based on mutual respect, business partnership and economic benefit. We have an experience to share and can implement joint projects in social policy, health, culture, science, industrial production and other areas," Sergey Gaplikov said. "I am confident the agreement we have signed today will give a new impetus to the development of our regions, opportunities and cooperation prospects expansion and efficiency in our work."
"The Republic of Komi is our good neighbour. Now Yugra is developing several large-scale investment projects close to the Polar Urals, which binds both regions. A new mining cluster should be established there," Natalia Komarova commented on. "The developing economy should avoid ecological impact. The Polar Urals have a unique environment. Its protection is declared separately in our agreement. Recreational activities in our regions should be used for ethnographic and ecological tourism. There is an interest in them. Last year, Yugra tour operators developed a new tourist route passing near Mount Narodnaya. The route captures territories of Yugra and Komi, so the tourists can spend equal number of days in both regions. By the way, the famous Pillars of Weathering in Komi, which are associated with the Mansi legend, are also located near Yugra border. This is a promising cooperation field."
The agreement provides for cooperation between the Republic of Komi and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District - Yugra in trade, economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural spheres.
In particular, the parties agreed to encourage innovations, to exchange information in state tariff regulations, to provide joint projects consideration aimed to economic potential development, to cooperate in energy infrastructure development to create energy-efficient power generation and distribution systems in the border areas, to cooperate in diversification of fuel and energy sector and industrial production, including the attraction of foreign partners and investors in the development of high technologies and competitive manufacturing of socially significant products, to create favourable conditions for contacts between research and design institutions, to share expertise in legal regulations of nature management, environmental protection and tourism development and to contribute to preservation and strengthening of cultural ties
