Science cooperation and youth initiatives development are promising areas of partnership between the Republic of Komi and the Federal Republic of Germany
The possibility of joint projects implementation was discussed today during a working meeting between Sergey Gaplikov, the Head of the Republic of Komi and Ms. Eltje Aderhold, the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in St. Petersburg.
The Consul General said it was her first working visit to the Republic of Komi [Note: the appointment was in September 2016]. She expressed readiness to cooperate closely to establish and to strengthen economic ties between the regions. According to Ms. Aderhold, German federal lands are interested in mutually beneficial cooperation with the Republic of Komi.
Sergey Gaplikov, the Head of Komi spoke about investment opportunities and economic conditions in the region. The Head of the region mentioned the creation of processing industries, bio-energy, coal chemistry projects, industrial waste utilization and recycling, as well as medical services as the most promising cooperation areas with German partners.
The parties also discussed the possibilities of educational cooperation, especially the implementation of language training and student exchange programs in schools and universities. The Head of Komi and the Consul General of Germany in St. Petersburg agreed on the development of youth cooperation, particularly in joint youth innovation centres establishment. S.Gaplikov instructed Natalia Mikhalchenkova, the Deputy Government Chairperson / Minister of Education, Science and Youth Policy of the Republic of Komi to analyze project implementation options under the Republican House of Peoples' Friendship.
The Head of the Republic of Komi also instructed the regional government to prepare proposals on making mutually beneficial cooperation agreements between the republic and the German federal lands considering promising areas and common interests.
